Ninth Ward

Twelve-year-old Lanesha lives in a tight-knit community in New Orleans' Ninth Ward. She doesn't have a fancy house like her uptown family or lots of friends like the other kids on her street. But what she does have is Mama Ya-Ya, her fiercely loving caretaker, wise in the ways of the world and able to predict the future. So when Mama Ya-Ya's visions show a powerful hurricane--Katrina--fast approaching, it's up to Lanesha to call upon the hope and strength Mama Ya-Ya has given her to help them both survive the storm.

  1. The book, Ninth Ward, shows you how very destructive Hurricane Katrina was. It has many good, bad, and sad parts. In my opinion, the author is very descriptive which helps the reader visualize what is happening. I found it very interesting, and therefore I recommend it to others.

  4. This book was amazing. It was so emotional! I loved it though. It really made me realize how destructive and horrifying hurricane Katrina was. I really enjoyed reading it and I recommend it to others. The ending kind of left me hanging. What happened after the men in the boat helped them? Did TaShon's parents meet up with him again? So, I think there might be another book...I hope so!

  6. I disagree with many people because i just didn't think it was that emotional. Some parts really got to me but that's just my opinion. This book does a really good job on describing the damage and destruction of Hurricane Katrina. And of showing how scared the people were. This book is amazing,it may even change how you look at things and to not take things for granted.
